T.I., Diddy, Snoop Dogg (or Lion)…. these are all rappers who’ve successfully navigated the treacherous waters of the rap name change. Gucci Mane…? Not so much. Perhaps the ATL-bred rapper should have taken some advice from those before him, because Gucci’s recent attempt to change his well-known moniker didn’t go quite as planned.
Yesterday Gucci announced his plans via Twitter:
Surprisingly enough, the feedback to Gucci’s announcement was initially positive. Some even tweeted “good job” and “hell yeah” back to Gucci to indicate their approval. However, things predictably turned sour once the word got out. And the general consensus was more along these lines:
Due to the overwhelmingly negative response, 32 minutes after making his original announcement, Gucci backtracked on his plans and tweeted instead:
Although clearly disappointed with the response from his fans, to show there was no hard feelings Gucci added:
