PETA What, PETA Who? Jay-Z Reveals The Making Of His Custom Kicks

You know how the song goes – “I got 99 problems, and [PETA] ain’t one!”

Ok, those may not be Jay-Z’s lyrics verbatim.  But it would certainly seem to be the case, as the music mogul has recently appeared to throw a massive ‘bird’ up to the animal rights organization – by posting a video of the making of his controversial custom sneakers.

Called the “Brooklyn Zoo,” Jay-Z’s über-rare sneakers are actually Air Jordan’s bespoke out of 9 different animal skins, including: elephant, ostrich, python, boa, crocodile, lizard, alligator, suede, and sting ray.

Predictably, PETA was up in arms over this custom shoe (which uses so many animal skins that they had to call it the “Zoo”).  They publicly criticized both Jay-Z and Beyoncé (she has a similar customized Isabel Marant sneaker of her own) for flaunting the extravagant use of “animals who were beaten and skinned alive or cruelly farmed and killed,” and called the sneakers ”moronic.”

Although neither Jay or Bey made a public response to PETA, through his Life+Times site, Jay quietly unveiled a behind-the-scenes video of the making of the “Brooklyn Zoo.” In the video, the designers showcase the care and detail that went into the sneaker’s production.  (Note: If you’re looking for an apology – this isn’t the video for you.)
