Ouch, this one’s got to hurt for Eddie Murphy. Once a Hollywood leading man, the legendary comedian has now topped Forbes 2012 list of Most Overpaid Actors.
Forbes compiles the list by comparing actors’ salaries to their box office draws; and by their calculations, Murphy’s career has “collapsed.” According to Forbes:
Imagine That, A Thousand Words and Meet Dave were colossal flops. Last year’s Tower Heist, which was supposed to be something of a return to form for the comedian, failed to wow at the box office.
Weighing box office receipts against paychecks, Forbes calculated that for every dollar Murphy was paid for his last three films, they returned an average of just $2.30 at the box office. This places Murphy at the top of the overpaid actors list (last year he was #2).
Also included in this list were Reese Witherspoon, Nicolas Cage, and, surprisingly, DENZEL WASHINGTON (we couldn’t believe that one either).
