The moment we had all been waiting for finally happened on January 7th, 2012 — Blue Ivy Carter was born!

The birth of Jay Z and Beyonce’s baby girl was one of the biggest stories of the year, but it wasn’t without its fair share of controversy. On August 28, 2011, Beyonce announced she was pregnant at the MTV VMAs.

First she was big, then small, then huge, then deflated — the Beyonce baby bump was ever-changing and no one seemed to be able to keep up. Plus, the due date was always a little shady. First we heard February, then April and bam, Baby Blue arrived in January…huh?! The First Couple of Hip Hop released this statement about the birth of their first child…

“Hello Hello Baby Blue! We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012.
Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”

Whether you think Bey really carried Blue, had a surrogate and or it’s just an alien baby, you can’t deny her cuteness!
