It was all red everything in the Washington, DC this past weekend as the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Innnnnnnnncorporated took over the nation’s capital in honor of 100 years of sisterhood.
“We want people to understand that we are still called to serve,” said Gwendolyn Boyd, chair of the sorority’s centennial events. “When we gather, we gather not to just socialize, but also to render service in every community.”
Topping off a week sisterhood, service and stomping the yard the Deltas got an unexpected surprise during their final closing gala when none other than President Barack Obama personally addressed the crowd full of “all red everything” as the speaker for the evening. One Delta claimed the POTUS lit the White House up “red light special” style for the night…
This was most likely not the case – as a HipHollywood reader pointed out the ”red” white house is really PINK in honor of breast cancer awareness back in October 2012. A soror can dream, right?
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was founded on Jan. 13, 1913, on the campus of Howard University. The sorority has more than 250,000 members and more than 900 chapters. Congrats to the ladies of DST!
